Album Review: Hit Me Hard And Soft
It has been a week since Billie Eilish released her latest album. Upon the initial listen, I found myself hooked on the beats and the intricate vocal layering. I was not able to dive deep into the lyrics as I was navigating the busy streets of Nice, France. I knew from the first listen that “LUNCH” and “CHIHIRO” were my favorites. After being able to read the lyrics and fully listen with all my attention dedicated to the album I was just even more impressed. The lyrics are truly touching in some songs and fun as well in other songs. Billie and Finneas are probably the best duo making music and that is not up for debate! After being able to listen to the album with my full attention “BLUE” easily became my favorite as well as “BITTERSUITE” and I can not forget to mention “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”. These songs are touching and just feel so good to listen to. I love all the hidden vocals and this album is probably going to be on repeat for a long time.
I hate giving albums a numerical grade so instead, I will explain my thoughts on the album and highlight what I like. Art is up for interpretation and giving it a numerical grade is so Pitchfork of me and we all know… those “ratings” suck.
Back to Billie, the length of my favorite songs is perfect, and I later realized that “CHIHIRO” is a five-minute song! That is enough time to get into a vibe and carry on with my day. “WILDFLOWER” is the reflection song. When listening to this song, I start to think about various moments in my life where I dealt with jealousy, insecurities, and shit that happens. This song feels as if time is frozen and you are just thinking.
There are rumors of a part two but I do not believe we will get a second follow-up album. Although I would love an extended version of “BLUE” and “CHIHIRO”. This album is perfect to vibe to and can not wait to get my hands on the vinyl record. I would like to attend the tour but with no stops in Florida, a quick trip to Atlanta may be needed. Now, I highly recommend listening to the album with headphones and then listening again in your car with the volume on high. I keep discovering hidden vocals and lyrics that make me appreciate the album even more.
